A-Day Traffic

Traffic Flow

The University of Alabama and local law enforcement authorities are working hard to ensure that Gameday traffic runs as smoothly as possible.  Please make a special note of the enhancements and changes from last season.

View the 2008 A-Day parking and traffic map.

View the 2008 A-Day post-game traffic map.

Pre-Game Traffic

Traveling on Bryant Drive?

There is ongoing construction on Bryant Drive between Wallace Wade Avenue and Lurleen Wallace Boulevard.  Please be aware that this could affect traffic and force you to take a detour in your typical route heading westbound to and from the stadium.

Interstate Construction

Please be aware of ongoing construction taking place on I-59 between the Mercedes exit (exit 89) and the Cottondale area. This will affect both northbound and southbound traffic throughout the season. All lanes will continue to be open; however, the speed limit in this construction zone is reduced.  When traveling to and from Tuscaloosa, please allow some extra travel time when planning your gameday weekend.

Gameday Routes and Parking Zones

There are four different, clearly defined routes designed to provide fans with the most time-efficient ways to get to and from the UA Campus.  Please use the appropriate route to and from the UA Campus which is closest to and most convenient to where you park. The four basic routes and three basic parking zones are defined below. The Cottondale Route and Route 216 share the same parking zone.

A-Day Kickoff on the Quad

Experience Kickoff on the Quad, UA's "official tailgate party”.  Kickoff for A-Day is scheduled for 2:05 p.m on Saturday, April 12, 2008.  Kickoff on the Quad begins three hours prior to kickoff.

Festivities include a variety of food vendors, merchandise vendors and children’s activities.

Setting Up & Getting Space on the Quad

Use the guidelines below to reserve your tailgating space for the west side of the Quad.

  • In an effort to give UA faculty, staff and students time to exit campus, tailgating may begin on The Quad in the designated areas after 6:00 p.m. on the Friday before the game.

  • The Quad drop off area along 9th Avenue will be open from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. before the game.

  • All tents (excluding those placed for official University functions) must be removed before 12 noon on Sunday or they will be considered abandoned.

  • We appreciate your cooperation in observing these rules, as setting up prior to 6:00 p.m. may interfere with class and/or other academic activities.

  • Be courteous to others by not taking more space than you need. We ask that you not set aside large spaces on The Quad and/or set aside parking spaces.

  • Fan tailgating and tent setup is available in designated areas.

    • This area includes both the land west of the main walkway between Denny Chimes and Gorgas Library and the land north of the sidewalk that spans from Gorgas Library to 6th Avenue on the east side of The Quad.

Tents & Setup:

In areas designated for tailgating on the Quad:

  • Fans are permitted to set up tents or awnings.

  • The use of spikes or stakes to secure your tent is prohibited. Sandbags are permitted, but please do NOT dump the sand out onto The Quad.

  • The use of ribbons, ropes, etc., to block off or “save” an area is prohibited.

  • Electrocution or damage to irrigation is a potential hazard. BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS AND LOOK UPWARD FOR WIRES.

  • To help preserve The Quad, all tents and tailgating supplies should be walked from the unloading zone to your desired location on The Quad.

Unloading Zones:

To accommodate the new Crimson Ride transit system and routes, an unloading zone will be open along 9th Avenue on the west side of The Quad ONLY during the following times:

    • Friday 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

    • Gameday 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

    • Post game –  when pedestrian and Gameday traffic clears (approximately 1 hour after the game ends or sooner if determined by law enforcement officials)

  • There will be a 15 minute time limit in the unloading zone.  Once the unloading zone is closed, all vehicles must be removed.  Towing will then be enforced.

  • Due to potential traffic hazards, loading and unloading elsewhere is prohibited.

  • To access the unloading zone along 9th Avenue, use the following route:

      • Take Marr’s Spring Road off of Campus Drive. Turn left onto Stadium Drive and it will lead to McCorvey Drive.

      • Turn right onto McCorvey Drive.  There will be an attendant at this point to assist you.

      • McCorvey Drive will then lead you to the 9th Avenue unloading zone.

Loading Zone after the Game:

  • For post game, a re-loading zone will be open along 9th Avenue on the west side of The Quad.  Due to the high amount of pedestrian traffic and the use of Capstone Drive as a transit lane, this re-loading zone will open once all Gameday pedestrian and bus traffic clears (approximately two hours after the end of the game or sooner if determined by local law enforcement officials).  For access, please utilize the same route as the pre-game loading zone.

Gas-Powered Generators:

  • Gasoline-powered generators are strictly prohibited on The Quad. They create noise and fumes that are disturbing to others.

Open Flames/Fire:

  • Cooking is limited to grills only.

  • Grills should be set up away from, or protected from, pedestrian traffic and flammable materials.

  • Grills must be monitored at all times.

  • Extinguish all flames before leaving your area.

  • Do not dump charcoal on The Quad.

Electricity:

  • Secure electrical cords crossing sidewalks to avoid trip hazard.

  • “Spidering,” or multiple connections of extensions cords in such a way as to generate more outlet capability (or to extend power options for exceptional distances), is not allowed.

    • For safety reasons, University staff encountering this issue will ask you to disconnect your outlets.

  • Avoid the use of items such as coffee pots, deep fryers, crock-pots, and microwaves as they will overload the electrical circuits on The Quad.

  • We may have interruptions in power due to weather conditions or overloading of the circuits?

Trailers:

  • In order to preserve The Quad for future generations, trailers that are towed by vehicles cannot be pulled onto The Quad; however, they can be pulled onto The Quad by hand for temporary unloading purposes. Trailers must be removed in a timely manner. Also, trailers must fit and remain on a sidewalk while unloading and cleaning up at your tailgating spot.

Sound System Policy:

  • A sound system may be used providing such use will not disturb other visitors and fans.  No excessive loud music will be allowed.  The Gameday Operations Staff will have sole discretion in determining if the overall volume level of the sound system is appropriate.

UA Pet Policy:

  • Pets are permitted on the University of Alabama Quad.  Pets must be crated, caged or upon a leash not longer than 6 feet or otherwise under physical restrictive control at all times.  Pet owners are required to pick up after their pets and properly dispose of their droppings.  Pets should not be left unattended.

The above guidelines apply on Gameday weekends (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) in areas including, but not limited to: the entirety of The University of Alabama Quadrangle, all surrounding roadways and parking lots (including 6th Avenue, Capstone Drive and Colonial Drive), the general vicinity (front, left, right and rear sides) of Gallalee Hall, Nott Hall (including parking lot), Lloyd Hall, Smith Hall, Tuomey Academic House, Gorgas Library, Oliver Barnard Hall, Morgan Hall, Bidgood Hall, Carmichael Hall, and Graves Hall.

Vehicles, Parking, & Traffic

Parking:

  • Parking in grassy areas along and adjacent to the sidewalks on the perimeter of the Quad is strictly prohibited. These are designated tow-away zones.

  • 6th Avenue, 7th Avenue, Capstone Drive and Margaret Drive will close at 5:00 p.m. on the Friday.

  • 9th Avenue will be closed to all thru traffic on Gameday.  It will be open only for designated times for the loading and unloading zone for the Quad.

No vehicles on the Quad:

  • Only pedestrian traffic is permitted on the Quad and lawns of adjacent buildings.

    • On weekends of home games, this area is a tow-away zone for all cars, trucks, ATVs, golf carts, and trailers. (This includes, but is not limited to cooking trailers, tow trailers, etc.)

    • Only University service vehicles and special-use vehicles are allowed on this area.

  • Vehicles on the quad destroy the turf, damage the underground irrigation system, present a serious safety hazard and disturb the tranquility of the natural setting. By observing these rules, you help to ensure that future generations can enjoy the Quad.

Emergency lanes:

  • Please observe all designated emergency lanes.

The above guidelines apply on Gameday weekends (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) in areas including, but not limited to: the entirety of The University of Alabama Quadrangle, all surrounding roadways and parking lots (including 6th Avenue, 7th Avenue, 9th Avenue, Capstone Drive and Colonial Drive), the general vicinity (front, left, right and rear sides) of Gallalee Hall, Nott Hall (including parking lot), Lloyd Hall, Smith Hall, Tuomey Academic House, Gorgas Library, Oliver Barnard Hall, Morgan Hall, Bidgood Hall, Carmichael Hall, and Graves Hall.

  • Trash bags are available for your use behind Gorgas Library.

Security:

  • Gameday event personnel will be in place on the Quad before, during and after the game to answer questions and to report any suspicious activity to local law enforcement.

  • Neither The University of Alabama Police Department nor the Tuscaloosa City and County law enforcement can be responsible for safeguarding fans’ personal property that is placed on the Quad.

  • Fans are permitted to bring personal property onto the Quad at their own risk and are responsible for the security and safety of their own personal property.

  • Fans are advised not to leave their personal property unattended.

Staff:

  • In an effort to help fans better identify Gameday personnel, they will be wearing bright green reflective vests labeled UA Gameday Operations.  If you have any questions, please find one of these employees and they will be glad to assist you.

  • The University of Alabama Gameday staff will have an information center set up at the corner of 6th Avenue and University Boulevard (southeast corner of the Quad).  This will serve as a convenient place for you to find out Gameday information.

Bruce McColl Blackened Steak

The Blackened Ribeye Steak sandwich is a thinly sliced choice ribeye steak that is quickly blackened on a grill and served with white american cheese, lettuce, tomato, and ranch dressing on a freshly baked roll. A Blackened Chicken Breast sandwich is also available. The sandwich comes with Golden Flake Chips and a Coca-Cola product. Freshly squeezed lemonade or cold bottled water is also available. We also serve a Strawberry Newport dessert, which is a puff pastry buried in rich vanilla custard and covered with fresh strawberries. Each year, a portion of our profits is donated to student scholarships at the University.
